In Western countries, companies such as Musical.ly and Vine are committed to finding the next network star, and now in Southeast Asia, China's Internet giant Tencent also began to follow the trend, looking for a foothold in the region.

Tencent and Ookbee, a digital content creation company, set up Ookbee U to identify Thailand's "user-generated content" and drive its growth and prosperity. In the future, Ookbee U will also enter other parts of Southeast Asia to create an all- media. In the next three years, Ookbee U hopes to promote the generation of more than 100 million copies of original content.

"Ookbee was born in the midst of the rise of e-books and e-magazines, and we've always worked with professional content creators and publishers," said Natavudh Pungcharoenpong, CEO of Ookbee and a partner of 500 Startups Thailand 500 Tuktuks. We have been busy with the traditional bookstore competition, however, the establishment of Ookbee U is clearly a more flexible idea. & Rdquo;

"Ookbee U content is very rich, not just books, music, comics, video will be our platform highlights. & Rdquo;

Southeast Asia has more than 600 million consumers, and with the steady spread of smart phones, the region's Internet economy in the next 10 years or will appear 10 times the trend. Thailand is the third largest country in Southeast Asia with a population of 65 million, a key element in the development of Ookbee U.

Tencent saw this potential long ago, in December last year, the acquisition of Thailand's largest portal Sanook (Tencent has also invested 10.5 million US dollars in 2010), Tencent's influence in the country to further expand. Although the specific terms of the establishment of the new company is not open, but informed sources, Tencent has agreed to invest at least $ 19,000,000 new company.

Tencent's flagship WeChat in China, although we all know, has long been unable to develop in Thailand, Japan's Line is still Thailand's most popular communications applications. However, Tencent's free music application Joox is popular in Thailand, allegedly currently registered users has more than 20 million. Ookbee U and Joox and other Tencent contact is very close. Artists who upload music on the Ookbee U platform and get their attention are automatically included in Joox's star chart.

Pungcharoenpong said: "I believe we will dig through this platform to more new talent." A lot of people are not very professional start, but in the end they will love Joox. Our goal is to find talent, and step by step to develop them into professionals. & Rdquo;

At the same time, Tencent also plans to create more video content in Thailand, I believe the two companies will produce a different kind of chemical reaction.

Speaking of new talent, music and video is probably a fertile ground. However, more than five years of Ookbee has been more dependent on the content itself, the company had a total of $ 9,000,000 financing, operating in five countries in Southeast Asia, but more than 800 million registered users, the majority of users in Thailand. Pungcharoenpong said, hope Ookbee U in the future to help them explore the star creator.
