As one of the most influential music rankings in the United States, music magazine billboard is changing attitudes towards Apple Music and other streaming music services. Billboard says it has more emphasis on paid subscription services in its 100 and more music rankings in 2018.
Billboard says that from 2018, subscription music subscription services, including Apple Music and Spotify, will gain greater computing power on the charts. These streaming music services will have a greater impact on the results of the rankings, not just the way YouTube calculates advertising and the impact of advertising.
At present, billboard music streaming media has two different statistical methods, in the hit singles and mixed list, Pandora and Slacker Radio services statistics play accounted for by calculating the specific way for the album; statistics of the billboard 200 and album sales list, only an on-demand audio streaming media calculation, including paid advertising, advertising support services also include, but are not statistics of the number of video playback.
As a part of the next reform of the billboard 200 in calculation is considered in the two layer on-demand audio streaming media playback times, and will pay to play the amount of subscription and advertising supported separate statistics, but still does not include the amount of video playback.
Streaming music will continue to be a measure of other metrics. In billboard 100, streaming media data will be mixed with pure radio playback data, digital version of the song sales data mixed statistics. And billboard 200 integrates traditional album sales, digital album sales and streaming music album sales of three kinds of data, summed up a unified result.
Billboard also said that these changes will improve the service level of the rankings, and will bring more revenue to the record companies and artists
In March this year, the recording industry association of America president and CEO Cary Sherman said, such as the YouTube free service, extensive use of loopholes in the law, much less than the actual value of the music price paid to the creator. At the same time, he pointed out that, according to income calculation, pay subscription service is the best way to reflect the value of music, of which Apple Music payment royalty highest, followed by Spotify.
