Google has announced that Google has become the default search engine on Mozilla's Firefox browser in the United States and in some regions. Mozilla spokesman Erica Jostedt said Google will be the default search service provider on Firefox browser desktops and phones in the United States, Canada, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Yahoo was the default search engine in the United States, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. Firefox does not yet have an official partner in Canada.
Verizon said Mozilla ended the deal with Yahoo, which caught it by surprise.
"We were surprised that Mozilla decided to go another way and we are discussing the terms of our agreement," said Charles Stewart, a spokesman for Yahoo's Verizon Oath unit.
In the decade prior to 2014, Google has been a global search provider for Firefox. After that, although Google is still the default search engine in the European market, other competitors such as Yahoo, Russia Yandex and China Baidu replaced Google in other regions respectively.
In 2014, former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer signed a five-year contract with Mozilla, when Firefox and Google's Chrome browser were competing for users.
According to data provided by analyst StatCounter, since then, Chrome's market share in the United States has doubled to about 60%. Mozilla, Apple and Microsoft's browser take up the rest.
According to regulatory filings, in 2015, Yahoo paid $ 375 million to Mozilla and said they would pay Mozilla at least the same amount every year until 2019.

The goal of Yahoo and Google is to charge for resettlement by placing sales ads next to search results, as well as collecting valuable user data. Google said in October that the change to the contract raised such costs by 54% in the third quarter to $ 2.4 billion.
