Amazon expands global food retail business to introduce fresh delivery service in France

On March 5, Frederic Duval, general manager of French e-commerce giant Amazon, told a local French media Sunday that the company plans to launch a fresh food distribution service in France, As part of the company's plan to expand the global food retail business, the Amazon initiative will not be implemented immediately. In an interview with France's Sunday newspaper, Duval said "Food has been one of Amazon's strong businesses since Amazon introduced Amazon Fresh in the United States in September 2016." Duval also said the acquisition of Whole Foods would mark a whole new step in the ambition of Amazon to expand its global retail business. He also said, "We are very willing to launch such a service in France, but everything is in order. Introducing such services means investing. & rdquo;

Last week, French private supermarket operator Systeme U said the carrier is in talks with Amazon about a possible fresh-food deal, though no major deal or cooperation agreement has yet been reached between Amazon and France's retailer.

Of course, Amazon has taken some steps in this direction and has steadily built its presence in the French market. In fact, Amazon has been running its own Prime Now delivery service in the Paris market since 2016.

Last month, Amazon claimed it would create 2,000 new jobs in France, and Amazon settled a protracted dispute with French tax authorities. Earlier, the French tax authority has been asking Amazon to pay nearly 200 million euros in taxes.

In an interview with the Sunday Mail, France's finance minister, Bruno Le Maire, said "Amazon is very popular in the French market because our top priority is job creation, and Amazon brings Thousands of jobs. & rdquo;

Le Meyer also said that "the cooperation agreement between Amazon and some French groups is being negotiated, especially in the field of food cooperation. However, the French government will require all parties to ensure fair competition. & rdquo;
