Amazon is preparing to build a second headquarters, allowing each city to compete with one another, promising to provide a surprising number of new jobs, but this does not mean that the company's existing employees must work safely.

According to the "Seattle Times" report on Monday, Amazon will lay off hundreds of employees at its Seattle headquarters, while also cutting hundreds of other people in other regions. This giant appliance company confirmed the report later. Earlier this year, Amazon frozen some of its business recruitment activities.

Amazon said that the layoffs started on Monday and will last for several weeks. It said that the company’s recent rapid growth has pushed some units beyond the budget, and some teams have too many people.

As part of the annual planning process, we are making adjustments to the personnel of the company, making small-scale layoffs in some places, and hiring in many other places. For affected employees, we will strive to find new roles for them in the areas that we are recruiting. ” Amazon said.

According to a statement, the candidate city for the second headquarters of Amazon has now been reduced from 238 seats to 20 seats, of which 19 are American cities and one is a Canadian city. Most of these cities are located on the East Coast of the United States, and Amazon’s existing headquarters is on the West Coast.

Some analysts said that the winning bid city will add a lot of high-paying jobs because Amazon promises to recruit up to 50,000 employees in its second headquarters. Amazon also plans to spend more than 5 billion U.S. dollars on new facilities, which is equivalent to the cost of the Apple spacecraft headquarters.

According to Forbes magazine's list of global riches released earlier this month, Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos is worth $112 billion.
