According to a blog post from the Google division of Alphabet, the company said it will launch a service called "Google News Initiative" aimed at eliminating false news on the Internet and in breaking news. Google said that the company plans to invest US$300 million over the next three years to improve the accuracy and quality of news appearing on various platforms of the company.

The background to Google’s adoption of this measure is that the company itself, as well as Facebook and Twitter, face boycotts due to their role in the 2016 US presidential election because they allow the dissemination of false news (many of which contains malicious information) during the election. These news may have shaken voters' positions and prompted them to support Donald Trump, a Republican candidate.

In addition, Google also published another blog post saying that the company will launch a tool to help users subscribe to news publications. Subscribe through Google allows users to use their Google account to purchase subscription services for various news sites, and to manage all these services in a unified manner.

Google said that the company will collaborate with the Financial Times, the New York Times, Le Figaro and The Telegraph to launch this news subscription service, saying that it will soon Then cooperate with more news publishers.
