In early 2005, he joined Google headquarters after receiving a doctorate in statistics from Stanford University. He stayed at Google for more than 13 years. Zhang Tuomu joined the Advertising Quality Department at the beginning of his career and participated in the construction of Google's earliest advertising experiment system. He participated in the core work of advertising CTR forecasting and bid ranking. He is also the first developer of Google user metrics such as DAU Live. These projects were very pioneering in the entire industry at that time.

In 2011, he joined the world-renowned economist and the economic research group of Google’s Chief Economist Hal Varian. He has done many original researches and developments based on big data in areas related to macroeconomics, user behavior, news, and law.

In 2014, Zhang Tuomu was invited to join Google Ventures as a technical partner. During more than four years in Google Ventures, he applied the method of machine learning and data modeling to the VC investment field, built a data-based investment decision model, optimized the investment decision-making process, and also significantly improved the investment performance and greatly improved the investment performance.
