Global smart phone market share brand distribution

Data show that in the first quarter of 2018, global smartphone shipments fell by 3% to 360 million units. Among them, the top three smart phone brands with market share are Samsung, Apple, and Huawei (including the Glory brand), which account for 22%, 15%, and 11%, respectively. Followed by millet, OPPO, vivo and LG, which accounted for 8%, 7%, 5% and 3% of the market. Other brands of smartphones together have a 29% market share.

Specifically, the top ten smartphone brands account for about three quarters of the global smartphone market. Among them, Apple's mobile phone shipments in the first quarter of 2018 were 52.2 million, an increase of 3% year-on-year. Xiaomi's shipments increased by 109% year-on-year, making it one of the fastest growing smart phone brands in the world.

Samsung's share in the global smart phone market is still small

In terms of market share on all continents, Samsung smartphones performed only relatively weakly in Asia. It only accounted for 11% of the market share. It was in line with Chinese manufacturers such as Huawei, Xiaomi, and oppo, which was slightly stronger than Apple's 12%, but It is worth noting that Chinese manufacturers, especially millet and oppo, are still in the Chinese market. Although they have expanded their foreign markets, they do not have a large share. Therefore, it can be inferred that Samsung’s performance in the domestic market is still weak.

Samsung in other regions still maintains advantages

From the market share of these regions, it can also be seen that the market share in Asia has been occupied by domestic manufacturers such as Huawei Millet, Oppo, etc. They are continuously engulfing the market that originally belonged to Apple and Samsung; the efforts of HMD (owner of NOKIA brand) are already in Europe. Seeing results; in Africa, Chinese Tecno De Cano and iTel voices are shipping in large quantities and are in line with Huawei's share.
