For a long time, Google has been trying hard to improve the extended installation experience of the Chromium series of web browsers. In addition to allowing users to access via the Chrome Web Store, developers who do not want to publish publicly can also install it through a third party. However, things may change in the future. Google announced on Tuesday that the company plans to remove the "inline installations" feature of Google Chrome Extensions, which means that users will no longer be able to install them through third-party websites.

The reason for the sudden and unexpected announcement of the option to block third-party installations of Chrome extensions was that Google had previously received many reports of users being deceived.

James Wagner, Extension Platform Product Manager, explains:

For extensions starting after June 12, 2018, when they try to call the chrome.webstore.install() function, the user will be redirected to the open Chrome Web Store on the new tab to complete the installation.

At the end of this summer (since September 12, 2018), the existing expanded inline installation options will also be disabled.

At that time, if users also want to install extensions through third-party websites, they will also be redirected to the Chrome Web Store.

Finally, Google plans to withdraw the inline installation API in early December of 2018:

Chrome 71 will be the first browser version to do this, and Google recommends that they redirect the link to the Chrome Web Store for those who publish extensions through their own websites.

Those who can no longer publish Chrome Web Store, or for various reasons do not do this, there will be no second way to choose —— These reasons have nothing to do with Google's policy, they can only regret exit.

Google said this will allow users to benefit in the future, making Chrome browser a more secure place to meet their browsing needs.
