Microsoft announces Windows 8.1 platform translation application stop service

via:博客园     time:2018/7/9 17:39:25     readed:205

Previously, after claiming that only Windows 8, Windows Phone 7.1 and Windows Phone Phone 8 were affected, Microsoft began to stop operating the Microsoft Translator applications that were suitable for Windows 8.1. It is reported that the official translation application is no longer applicable to Windows 8.1, and the download link is also deleted from Microsoft Store. The device that installs the application can no longer perform the translation, and once it is deleted, it cannot be recovered.

The Microsoft Store list of the application indicates that at least Windows 10 must be installed to install Microsoft Translator, confirming that Windows 8.1 is no longer supported.

Microsoft's move to stop Windows 8.1 application support is not surprising, and the company wants more users to turn to Windows 10, and Windows 8.1 itself accounts for only a small market share, which means that the company has little reason to continue to invest in its applications.

The June 2018 NetMarketShare data showed that Windows 8.1 was only running on 4.95% of the global desktop systems, and fourth were listed after Windows 7, Windows 10 and macOS 10.13. The market share of the leader Windows 7 is 41.74%.

Windows 8.1 has no mainstream support since January 2018, which means Microsoft is no longer a new function for the operating system. As part of the current extension support branch, Windows 8.1 receives only security patches that address vulnerabilities in its code.

Microsoft Translator provides a series of functions, including support for more than 60 languages, real-time dialogue translation functions, Cortana integration, offline support for downloading languages, and translation without Internet connections, as well as the translation of written text with Windows Ink.

The Windows 10 version will obviously continue to get more improvements, so the user who runs the latest version of the operating system will not be affected by this decommissioning event.
