Another large manufacturer of electric scooters is Segway/Ninebot, which supplies Lime for another shared scooter brand in the United States, and the company has a close relationship with millet, which may be one of its shareholders. Xiaomi official did not comment on the true relationship between millet and Segway.
It is reported that there are no specialized bicycle lanes in large and medium-sized cities in the United States, so the development scale of sharing bicycles is far less than that of the Chinese market. In the near future, electric scooters suddenly became popular.
Uber and Lyft2, two of the biggest ride-hailing giants in the United States, are already involved in electric scooters, hoping to use them as ride-hailing.
The scooters scattered on the sidewalk have caused some confusion in the city. A few years ago, millet executives have said that smart phones will enter the US market, but the position has not been implemented as practical action. Today, Xiaomi sells some headphones and other peripheral electronic products in the US instead of mobile phones.
Not long ago, Xiaomi executive Wang Xiang said in an interview with the media that Xiaomi has already deployed engineers within the company and is developing a mobile phone version compatible with the US mobile network, possibly in 2019.
The executive also said that cooperation between millet and US mobile operators has not yet achieved concrete results.
