In a document filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday, Microsoft disclosed that Nadella had paid more than $35 million through the sale of the stock. Nadella sold 328,000 shares of Microsoft common stock at a price of $109.08-$109.68.
In the past year, Microsoft's share price has risen 53%, and it closed at $109 on Friday's regular trading. On July 25, Microsoft closed at a new high of $110.83.
Nadella still holds 778,596 shares of Microsoft common stock. According to an agreement with Microsoft, Nadella must hold Microsoft stocks with a market value equal to 15 times its base salary.
In 2017, Nadella’s basic annual salary was $1.45 million, and the total salary was over $20 million.
A Microsoft spokesperson told CNBC in an e-mail that "Nadela's disclosure of shares today is related to its personal financial planning and diversification of assets. Nadella is confident in Microsoft's future success, and he holds stocks. Still far beyond the board's requirements."
Microsoft shares have tripled since Nadella succeeded Steve Ballmer (Steve Ballmer) as CEO in February 2014. He began selling Microsoft shares in 2016, when they were trading at about $58. (compilation / Frost Leaf)
