Apple released the latest support documentation, detailed information on the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max dual card features, and told users how to set up and when.
iPhone Xs or iPhone Xs Max can use two cellular mobile numbers, a nano-SIM card and an eSIM. The eSIM is a digital SIM card. eSIM does not have to use a physical nano-SIM card to activate the cellular mobile number provided by the carrier.
iPhone Xs or iPhone Xs Max is dual card dual standby, ie both SIM cards can make and receive calls. It can also be used to send and receive SMS and MMS messages. If one of the numbers is on a call, the call received by the other number will go directly to the voice message.
Dual SIM cards are used in many ways, including but not limited to the following:• Use one number for work calls and another number for personal calls.• Add a local data package when traveling abroad.
• Use separate numbers for voice and data.
To use a dual card, your iPhone must be contacted by the carrier to unlock it. If the carrier is locked, only two SIM cards can be the same carrier. At the same time, only one of the dual cards supports CDMA.
N.The function corresponding to the dual SIM card (eSIM) needs to be updated on the iOS 12 system to activate, but when the relevant function is launched, Apple did not explain it. It only indicates that the corresponding iOS 12 update will be released later this year. According to speculation, it is probably online in iOS 12.1 or iOS 12.2.
※ In addition to the Chinese version, the iPhone Xs/Xs Max in other regions is a nano-SIM and a SIM card.
※ The National Bank version only has iPhone Xs Max as a dual card (XR is also a physical dual card but not in the scope of this description file) and is two nano-SIM cards. Two cards can be placed on the front and back sides of the card slot.
Unlike an iPad or Apple Watch, setting up an eSIM for an iPhone requires scanning a QR code or downloading an operator's application. You can also use eSIM as your primary SIM card to eliminate the hassle and annoyance of SIM card failure.
▲How to use eSIM to set up your cellular mobile number
If you don't have a nano-SIM card and the carrier supports eSIM as the only cellular mobile number, you can use only eSIM. The eSIM provided by the operator is digitally stored on the iPhone.
Follow the steps below to activate a cellular mobile number with a QR code:• Go to Settings > Cellular Mobile Network.• Tap “Add Cellular Mobile Number”.• Scan the QR code provided by your carrier with your iPhone.
• If the system asks you to enter a confirmation code to activate eSIM, enter the number provided by the carrier.
If desired, the user can manually enter the package information: Tap “Manually enter information” at the bottom of the iPhone screen.
To activate your cellular mobile number via the carrier app, follow these steps:• Go to the App Store and download the carrier app.• Use this app to purchase a cellular mobile number.
• You can store multiple eSIM numbers on your iPhone, but only one at a time. To switch eSIM numbers, tap Settings > Cellular Mobile Network > Cellular • Mobile Numbers, then tap the number you want to use. Then tap "Enable this number."
▲How to label numbers separately
After the second number is activated, it can be said that the two numbers are respectively labeled. For example, you can mark one number as "business" and another number as "personal."
Use these tags to distinguish between the numbers you are using: making or receiving calls, sending and receiving messages, selecting a number for cellular mobile data, and assigning a number to a contact.
To change the label, go to Settings > Cellular Mobile Network and tap the number you want to change the label. Then tap “Cellular Mobile Number Label” to select a new label or enter a custom label.
▲Choose how to use two numbers
Set one of the numbers as the default number. The default number is used for iMessage messages and FaceTime calls. Your default number will also be used when making calls or sending messages to people who are not in the Contacts app.
You can also choose to use one of the numbers only for cellular mobile data, and the other number will become the default number.
▲Main card and sub card setting interface description
1. Use "Master" as the default number: "Master" will be used as the default number for voice, SMS, data, iMessage messages, and FaceTime calls. The "sub-number" can only be used for voice and text messages.
2. Use the "sub-number" as the default number: "Sub-number" will be used as the default number for voice, SMS, data, iMessage information, and FaceTime calls. The "master" can only be used for voice and text messages.
3. Use the “sub-number” only for cellular mobile data: for example, traveling abroad, you can use the “master number” for voice, SMS, iMessage messages, and FaceTime calls. "Sub-number" is used for data.
▲How to switch between different phone numbers to make a call
