After removing the display, iFixit foundiPhoneThere are some differences between XS Max and iPhone XS, including the resizing Taptic Engine and the expansion logic board, with one display connector moving to the bottom. The iPhone XS Max also seems to have a slightly larger headset for talking. Disassembly confirmed that the iPhone XS has a new L-shaped battery, while the iPhone XS Max battery is still two batteries. As stated in the Chinese regulatory documents, the battery capacities of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are 2,658 mAh at 3.81V and 3,174 mAh at 3.80V.

Since the L-shaped battery has six sides instead of four, the iFixit says that Apple has placed the battery inside the corner to prevent excessive stress due to thermal expansion. This dramatic shift opens up many design possibilities, but compared to X, this interior angle design is responsible for the decline in battery capacity.

In addition, they found a new Apple brand power management chip in the iPhone XS Max. There are reports that Apple will begin using its own power management chip in at least some of its iPhones in 2018, as it gradually reduces its reliance on Dialog Semiconductor.

iFixit confirms that the wide-angle sensor size of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max has increased by 32%, providing better low-light performance and contributing to the new "smart HDR" feature. iFixit scored a total score of 6 points for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, out of 10 points. Maintenance experts say that display and battery repair are still the top priority for iPhone design, but the all-glass design means that if the back glass breaks, the entire casing must be replaced.
