On October 11th, the launching ceremony of the Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Dawan District Semiconductor Industry Alliance was held in the Guangzhou Development Zone. The alliance members will build a series of service support platforms including chip testing, EDA, IP, talent training and industry incubation. The semiconductor industry ecology of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau's Dawan District will enhance the overall competitiveness of the semiconductor industry in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.
The semiconductor industry is the core and foundation of the real economy, especially the modern industry. It also provides important strategic support for the development of strategic emerging industries such as new generation information technology, high-end equipment manufacturing, green low-carbon, digital economy and new materials. At present, the third-generation semiconductor materials and related device chips represented by gallium nitride (GaN) and silicon carbide (SiC) have become the competition points of the global high-tech competition strategy and the focus of the international technology blockade.
Zou Sheng, deputy secretary of the former party group of Guangdong Provincial Economic and Information Committee, said that Guangdong's electronic information industry has occupied one-third of the country. Last year, Guangdong's semiconductor imports amounted to 80 billion US dollars. This shows that the market demand is huge, but Guangdong has not formed. Manufacturing the core of the core and semiconductor industry, this is the short board that needs to be complemented.
Zhao Qiuqi, deputy director of the National Integrated Circuit Design Shenzhen Industrialization Base, has high hopes for the alliance. He said that Shenzhen's integrated circuit design is very strong, but should a city go hand in hand to engage in the entire industry chain? The Pearl River Delta is an important part of the national integrated circuit, and each of them can fully support the industrial chain.
In fact, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao have initially formed their respective advantages in the semiconductor industry. The advantages of Guangzhou are applied and manufactured. Shenzhen and Zhuhai are strong in product and design. Macao's scientific research level is the world's leading. Hong Kong has international experience in intellectual property protection.
At present, Guangzhou and its surrounding areas have become the largest distribution center and consumption land for domestic integrated circuits. It has a number of packaging and testing enterprises such as Xingsen Express, Anjieli, Fenghuaxindian, Xinxing Microelectronics and Fengjiang Microelectronics. The 12-inch chip factory with virtual IDM as the operational strategy is expected to be mass-produced by the end of 2019.
The scale of IC design industry in Shenzhen ranks first in the country for many years, and it shows that the advantages of leading integrated circuit design companies are obvious, and resources are concentrated in large enterprises. In 2017, among the top ten IC design companies in China, Shenzhen enterprises accounted for four.
According to data from the Science and Technology Industry Bureau of Zhuhai High-tech Zone, in 2017, Zhuhai IC design service revenue was 4.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 66%. It ranked ninth among the top ten cities in the national design industry, with the highest growth rate in the design industry. Ranked third in ten cities.
The State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal Very Large Scale Integrated Circuits at the University of Macau is the only national key laboratory for microelectronics in Guangdong and Macau. Its research results have enjoyed a high reputation internationally, and also through training masters and doctors. The founding director of the Macao Microelectronics Association, the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Education and the member of the Science and Technology Commission of the Macao SAR Government, Yu Chengbin, also said that there is no need for every place to do the industrial chain, the cost is too high, and the entire Dawan District is the industrial chain.

Yu Chengbin also said that the biggest challenge at present is talent and investment. The shortage of talents will lead to aggravation of people everywhere, and it takes a long time to make chips. It is unfavorable for talents to flow too frequently. If you only focus on a certain link in your investment, you need to concentrate resources on long-term and comprehensive investment before you can see the effect.
