David Hsieh of IHS Markit, at the 2018 Korean Display Conference held in Yangjae-dong El Tower, Seoul, on November 6, said that China's display market share is expected to reach 58% in 2023 and will more than double that of Korea. Chinese display manufacturers areDevelopmentOLED and other latest technologies, and quickly penetrate the market. In the display industry, the size of mother glass determines the speed and level of upgrading. As a result, China's display industry will have many large, technologically advanced panel factories, which are the eighth or later generation of small and medium-sized panels, the fifth or later generation. At the same time, LG and Samsung displays are expected to have fewer than 20 such factories.
IHS Markit predicts that active investment by display manufacturers in mainland China and Taiwan will lead to a long-term oversupply of the display industry. Some experts say the display market presents a more unpredictable cycle. The price cycle of the panel decreases from the annual unit to the quarterly unit. In particular, the price rise period is shortened and the price fall period is prolonged. Facing the competition of Chinese manufacturers, Korea Companies will face many difficulties. IHS Markit's Chung Yoon-sik said Korean companies should continue to invest decisively in new technologies such as quantum dot OLEDs and micro-LEDs, while striving to expand the large OLED market.
