In his opinion,HUAWEIIn the past, innovation was 1.0 mode, mainly the innovation of products, technology and solutions. With the establishment of the Institute of Strategic Research, Huawei will move towards innovation 2.0: the breakthrough of basic theory and the invention of basic technology.
In fact, as early as 2016, Ren Zhengfei, the founder of Huawei, expressed his anxiety that Huawei had entered a no man's land. Xu Wenwei explained that with Shannon's law and Moore's law entering the bottleneck, the era is calling for new theoretical breakthroughs. "Without the breakthrough of basic theory and the invention of revolutionary technology, there will be no future for industry."
He revealed that the Institute of Strategic Studies will focus on information generation, computing, storage, transmission, processing and display, through cooperation with global universities and technology investment. He cited several new technologies that strategic research institutes are focusing on: Huawei is working with universities and research institutes to study optical computing; NDA storage, which stores 700 TB data in 1 cubic millimeter; and atomic manufacturing, which breaks Moore's law by 100 times.
