The purpose of enabling the new icon is to bring a more unified and concise design to the Google Play Mall in different UI layouts, shapes and devices. The new version of the icon disables transparent background, and Google dynamically adds rounded corners and shadows to the icon. Currently AndroidMobile phonePlay Store on tablets and Chromebook has started deploying new icon specifications.
In the Google Play Console console, the Graphic Assets section of the Product Details page today reminds us that the mandatory changes to the new icon design specifications will take effect on June 24, 2019.
"When your icon meets the new specifications, please let us know," Google said. If you are not ready, you can continue to use the icons of the old specification at this stage. But it will automatically shrink your icon after June 24. After May 1, applications that do not conform to the new icon specification will not be uploaded or accepted. Developers will have to change the new icon after June 24, otherwise Google will automatically change the original icon to "traditional mode", that is, to place the existing icon on a white square with rounded corners.
This change does not apply to Google Play for Android Auto, Android TV and Wear OS, nor to any APK starter icon on any platform.
