Today, Apple Watch Series 4 is ranked one of the best display products of the year by the International Institute for Information Display (SID). The award is designed to honor display products that exhibit the most important technological advances and/or outstanding features.
This year is the 25th Annual Display Industry Award. The winners were announced at Display Week in San Jose, California. Dr. Chen Wei, chairman of the Display Industry Award Committee, said that such an annual event was an excellent opportunity to show innovations in displays.
Dr. Chen said: "The annual display industry award has always been the highlight of the exhibition, because it shows us the high quality innovation work in the display industry at all levels, from accessories to terminals. This year's winners reflect the breadth and depth of recent product development and technological innovation. This also provides support for the sustainable development of consumers and industrial electronic products.
The Information Display Institute (SID) praised Apple Watch Series 4 for making OLED display area 30% larger than the original one while keeping the basic design unchanged. In addition, it also uses new LTPO technology to improve battery efficiency.
SID gave the reason for winning the award: "While retaining the original iconic design, Apple Watch Series 4 has been improved to integrate new hardware and software enhancements perfectly. The challenge for designers is how to make the display larger without significantly increasing the shell size or shortening the battery life. The narrow boundary increases the visible area by more than 30%, and the new display technology of LTPO also improves the battery efficiency. This means that a single charge can support a day's use.
Samsung's modular microLED display and Sony's Crystal LED display system also won the annual display award this year.
