Open source advocates worry about being monopolized by Microsoft

The GitHub Package Registry allows developers to find and publish their packages through the same interface.

However, Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation, believes that Microsoft is moving towards another form of complete monopoly that could jeopardize other companies and projects, including the Eclipse IDE.

According to a recent survey by Stack Overflow, Eclipse led the market share of Jakarta EE development, followed by IntelliJ IDEA and Visual Studio Code.

The combination of GitHub + VS Code has become very popular, but this single culture has sparked a bit of concern for observers.

Is it safe to put all the eggs in one basket?

True, we need a universal package manager that is well-planned to meet a variety of needs. But if all the paths of open source developers are directed to Microsoft, isn't this ironic?

Since the acquisition of GitHub, Microsoft has been actively promoting a more open source platform. But at the same time, the software giant controls most of the meteor development techniques, so we may soon see the day the market is dominated by Microsoft.

As for whether such a result is sensible, it is only through time to test it.
