According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), residents of South Australia and Victoria witnessed the blazing fireball. According to eyewitness reports and videos, the fireball was huge and bright and quickly disappeared from sight after crossing the sky.
The fireball was detected by several monitoring agencies, including the Australian Geosciences Corporation. The group reported that the meteor became larger about 400 kilometers south of Adelaide.
Dr Steve Chesley of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory told local media that the fireball might have been caused by a meteor the size of a small car. Fortunately, the fireball did not cause any casualties.
