Wal-Mart pushes AI concept store "Smart Retail Lab" to compete with Amazon Go

via:cnBeta.COM     time:2019/4/26 9:04:55     readed:1359

It is understood that IRL is an artificial intelligence-driven retail store that uses the camera, sensors and machine learning to help store operations.

But Wal-Mart's technology doesn't completely replace employees like Amazon, but helps employees improve efficiency. For example, the camera is not used to automatically process purchases, but to let employees know when meat begins to deteriorate, or when certain products are expected to be sought after before the arrival of large-scale shopping. IRL's artificial intelligence can even detect shopping carts left by customers in the corner.

In other words, the goal of all these technologies is to reduce the workload of Wal-Mart employees who need to continually patrol the store. In theory, this should allow them to free up more time to help customers, and this is where Wal-Mart wants to see its stores shift in the long run.
