Bloomberg quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that HP Enterprise is close to completing the transaction negotiation for the acquisition of Cray, and the results will be announced as early as this week. The final agreement has not been reached, so it may be postponed.
Cray is a well-known supercomputer manufacturer with a market capitalization of around $1.2 billion. The acquisition of Cray will strengthen HP Enterprise's position in high-end computer systems. Cray was founded in 1972 by Cray Research of Seymour Cray, the father of supercomputers. Cray Research was acquired by SGI. Cray was founded in 2000 by acquiring the original Cray Research assets, and all SGI shares were acquired by HP Enterprise in 2016.
