According to Cat Zakrzewski Washington Post, Twitter have imposed a "manipulated media" label on a tampered video shared by White House social media director Dan Scavino (Dan Scavino) and forwarded by US President Donald Trump by former Vice President Joe Biden (Joe Biden). It is believed to be the first time the platform has used the tag to represent fake media.
Twitter's ban on fraudulent sharing of fake photos, videos and media on the platform came into effect on March 5. The policy covers synthetic and manipulated media that "have the potential to affect public security or cause serious harm," including complex forged content and other content that has been fraudulently edited.
Twitter said it would ban repeat offenders from violating the policy and mark the tweet as "manipulated.".
Twitter spokesman Catherine Hill (Catherine Hill) confirmed to The Verge in an email that "this tweet was based on our synthetic and manipulated media policy ."
The White House and Biden campaign have yet to respond.
