Apple's operations team is working with governments around the world to find and buy masks from supply chain channels.
Cook also recorded a short video to illustrate the situation:
I work at home, like many of you, I just want to take a little time to encourage you to do what experts suggest we do. To stay at home as far as possible, make sure the distance with anyone else is 6 feet.
And I'm glad to tell you this morning, Apple has purchased and is donating 10 million masks to the u.s. medical community, and we should be grateful for all the work of front-line medical staff.
I also want to introduce people who are working. From warehouse workers to delivery men to people who store shelves in our local supermarkets and pharmacies, these people deserve our thanks.
In the most difficult times, we have shown the greatest unity, and I know many of us will come forward.
A reporter said the louisiana state government had talked to cook about the mask, who promised to donate 100,000 N95 masks.
