Linus Torvalds successfully released Linux Kernel 5.6 formal version of the system kernel today, a lot of improvements, especially the initial addition of support for USB4.

USB4 standard was officially released in September 2019. The biggest difference from the previous version is that it is based on the lightning protocol completely opened by Intel. Therefore, the bandwidth has doubled to 40Gbps again, which is exactly the same as lightning 3. Meanwhile, it is downward compatible with lightning 3, USB 3. X / 2.0, and only type-C interface.

Intel then submitted the relevant code of USB4 support to Linux, which is less than 2000 lines, very compact, because most of the code can be used with thunderbolt 3. Now it is implemented in Linux 5.6 kernel, and a new era has quietly begun.

Of course, there is still a lack of USB4 related chips and equipment, Intel、AMD platform is not native support, so everything can only be said to be preliminary, the future will continue to improve.

Microsoft,Windows 10 has also started to rush to support USB4A recently released preview of membership Build 19582 already in action.

In addition, Linux 5.6 has new supportWireguard VPN (can replace IPSec mode), AMD zen3 CPU processor architecture, Amazon echo smart speaker, Western Digital zone EF file system, f2fs compression, optimized Intel 11 / 12 generation core display support, built-in NVIDIA RTX 20 series graphics card driver, optimized amd Navi / Renoir reset quick recovery function, fixed the k10temp vulnerability of AMD sharp dragon processor, and solved the problem that 32-bit system could not be used on January 19, 2038.

For the next version of Linux 5.7, Linus Torvalds said it would not be affected by the epidemic, because engineers are basically telecommuting at home, but communication is not as smooth as before, and may be slightly delayed.
