For the reason of this rename, Microsoft explained
First, we want our products to reflect a range of features and benefits in our subscriptions. Microsoft 365 covers applications and services that let you use AI and other cutting-edge innovations.
For small and medium-sized enterprises, this includes many features of Microsoft teams that help you host rich meetings and events online; cloud file storage and sharing capabilities so you can collaborate anywhere; and security and identity solutions to protect your business.
Secondly, we have been looking for simplification methods. This new way of naming our products is designed to help you quickly find the subscription plans you need and start your business.
