Samsung Display announced in february that its Ultra Thin Glass (utg) flexible foldable screen glass cover is officially commercial. This glass is only 30 microns thick and is produced by an enhanced process to enhance its flexibility and durability.
Samsung's goal is to enhance its competitiveness by developing an upgraded version of foldable glass. Samsung Electronics said it wanted to double its thickness to make it less vulnerable to shocks and wrinkles.
Of course, another reason why Samsung Electronics developed its own foldable screen is to make it more price-competitive. currently, the unit price of foldable glass used by Galaxy Z Flip is about $40,20 times that of ordinary smartphone glass.
In response, industry observers pointed out that the high price is due to the lower demand for foldable glass compared with ordinary smartphones. But once Samsung develops its own display glass and mass produces it, the price is expected to fall accordingly.
