As the former girlfriend of AMD, global foundries (GF) has been actively reducing investment and selling the fab for the past two years, but today they announced that they have acquired 66 acres of land near New York State, and Fab 8 fab is ready to increase production capacity.
Fab8 factory is the 14nm and 12NM factory of lattice core. After quitting the 7Nm process competition, it is the most advanced wafer factory of lattice core. The IO core of 7Nm sharp dragon and Xiaolong is the main OEM for AMD, as well as the previous Polaris core GPU, sharp dragon I and sharp dragon II processors.
Lattice core hasn't made any money since AMD's separation. They have been losing money in recent years and have begun to cut their business. Many of its Fabs have been sold at low prices. In general, lattice core is unlikely to invest heavily.
The move will strengthen cooperation with the U.S. Department of defense and the U.S. defense industry, further consolidate U.S. national security, better serve the U.S. government and the technology it needs in the coming decades, said Gexin.
The above measures will take effect later this year to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of US defense related applications, equipment and parts produced by FAB 8 plant.
It should be noted that the Fab factory that GE Xin promised to invest 10 billion US dollars in Chengdu has turned yellow, and the last 74 employees have also been dismissed after signing the resignation agreement. In the current situation, lattice core can no longer invest in the construction of wafer factories in China.
