Tesla, an electric car maker, is buying more land in Austin, Texas, for future expansion. It is understood that the company has acquired another 381 acres of land adjacent to the site of its Austin super factory. In July, Tesla CEO musk said Tesla's next super factory will be built in Austin, Texas.
The plant will be Tesla's fifth plant after Nevada, New York, Shanghai and Berlin, as well as its fourth auto assembly plant after Fremont, Shanghai and Berlin.
In August, foreign media said Tesla bought a piece of land in Austin for nearly $100 million to build its Texas super factory.
It is reported that the factory has started construction, and has begun to recruit people. In early September, Tesla released the "Travis County Colorado River project partner prequalification report.". According to the report, the "first commissioning" of the Texas super plant is scheduled for December 30, 2020, and the "first substantial completion" is scheduled for May 1, 2021.
It is reported that the factory covers about 2000 acres and is the company's largest property by far. It is about 5 minutes away from Austin Airport and 15 minutes from downtown Austin.
On September 22, Tesla held a "battery day" event. At the event, the company outlined its plans to produce a new battery pack.
Now, foreign media reports say Tesla will buy more land near the Texas plant, suggesting that the company may be preparing for another battery plant, which will increase the company's total battery production.
The reason Tesla wants to build a battery plant near its Texas plant is that the electric cars it is going to build there require a lot of batteries.
In addition to its first electric pickup, cybertruck and semi, Tesla's Texas plant will also produce model y crossover cars for customers on the east coast, musk said.
