With the release of the iPhone 12, 5g business has joined another mobile phone manufacturer. So far, the major global smartphone brands have launched 5g products. According to the information released at the conference, in addition to the sub-6ghz band, some 5g iPhone models also support millimeter wave.

Prior to this, the Chinese mobile phone brand Yijia also worked with Verizon to use Qualcomm 5 G solution to support millimeter wave band in this year's 5 new machine OnePlus 8 series, thus achieving coverage of low frequency, medium frequency and millimeter wave band

There are three kinds of 5g spectrum: low, medium and high. At present, the familiar mobile communication uses medium low frequency spectrum, while millimeter wave belongs to high frequency spectrum. Millimeter wave supports thousands of megabits of speed, large capacity, and can bring a new user experience of the next generation by providing the ability to connect seamlessly with the cloud.

GSMA officially released its "5g millimeter wave technology white paper" at the 5g millimeter wave Industry Summit Forum on December 12. According to the white paper, 5g millimeter wave can fully release the full potential of 5g and become one of the core technologies to be deployed in the next phase. According to the white paper, 5g millimeter wave is expected to shine in 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Previously, the industry generally believed that millimeter wave coverage is limited and expensive, only supports line of sight (LOS) transmission, and can only be used for fixed use cases, requiring larger terminal dimensions. However, through technological innovation, Qualcomm and its partners have proved that millimeter wave can be used for mobile communication.

Held on 13th

At present, Qualcomm is actively promoting millimeter wave testing and validation with partners in China. In October last year, Qualcomm and ZTE realized the first 5g millimeter wave interoperability test based on smart phones in China. In September this year, Qualcomm took the lead in completing the millimeter wave performance test based on 3GPP rel-16 MIMO OTA test method in MTNet Laboratory of China Academy of communications and communications; in addition, it was the first chip manufacturer to participate in and pass all 10 26ghz 5g millimeter wave RF tests.

With the continuous use of millimeter wave, the potential of 5g will be further released. Research data show that by 2034, 5g millimeter wave can create 565 billion US dollars of GDP. In China, the economic benefits of using millimeter wave band will reach 104 billion US dollars. With the support of spectrum, standards and industry, China's millimeter wave has made positive progress in commercialization, and is expected to have commercial capacity in 2022.

Besides testing experiments, Qualcomm also works closely with China's ecosystem to help 5 G innovate. Qualcomm joined forces with China's leading handset makers in January 2018
