To Apple TV 4K users, Apple's HomePod as a home theater speaker is increasingly important. Apple has confirmed that the upcoming software update will allow the speaker to output Dolby Atmos audio and 5.1 and 7.1 channels of audio from Apple's streaming box. As you have two HomePod speakers paired, the feature will work best. But the new $99 HomePod mini will not support new home theater features.
HomePod will also acquire a new surround sound function, using its spatial sensing function to provide virtual surround sound frequency. As Apple's website points out, the $99 HomePod mini lacks space sensing or beamforming technology, so
Apple's upcoming update means that homepod will catch up with Amazon studio's similar sound solution, which has been able to provide Dolby atmos audio for fire TV streaming devices since it was released last year. Amazon's speakers can provide sound quality comparable to the larger and more expensive Dolby atmos Sound Blaster.
