GM-Cruise petitions the US government deploys no steering wheel autopilot.

According to foreign media reports,On Wednesday local time, Cruise Automation of GM submitted a petition to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), asking for permission to deploy Origin autopilot.Although the law of autopilot is state level, these companies still need the approval of the federal government.

In fact, GM cruise filed a petition two years ago about its prototype car without steering wheel and pedals based on the Chevrolet bolt. However, the NHTSA reviewed the petition for up to 15 months before setting a mandatory public review period, which ended in a deadlock. According to cruise's statement, the petition no longer exists. Instead, it will focus on getting origin on the road.

Origin is not a concept conceived by GM and cruise. In fact, it plans to build at the automaker's newly named factory zero in Detroit, Michigan.
