Earlier this month, twitter announced that it would soon begin testing a feature called audio spaces to compete with the clubhouse. The new product will allow Twitter users to gather in a dedicated space and have a live conversation with another person or group of people. While the company showed a few screenshots of the product at the time of the announcement, there were few specific details about how audio spaces works. Now?we know more about the Audio Spaces function set thanks to some mining Jane Manchun Wong by reverse engineer.

Jane enabled private beta in Twitter applications and released screenshots showing how the Audio Spaces and its features are running. Certainly, these features may change before the feature is later introduced to the public, but it gives insight into Twitter current thinking about the product.

The screenshot shows that users will be able to apply the same dialog control features available today as tweets to audio spaces. This will allow users to configure their audio space to be open to anyone who wants to join, only to those they care about, or only to those they specifically invite to join.

Users can also invite others to join their space in a variety of ways, including via personal message (DM), tweeting, or copying a link that can be shared elsewhere.

When a space is added, the microphone is disabled when people enter the space to limit noise. As the conversation progresses, they can respond to what is said with various emoticons, such as

Also, after dedicated rooms are created, Audio Spaces creators will be able to adjust who can speak at any time. In the application menu, they will be able to manage speakers, adjust other settings, view rules, and share feedback or report space.

An interesting finding is that according to this menu, Audio Spaces will contain transcripts of chat. This is a distinctive feature compared to some other audio chat room services. Although ostensibly designed for accessibility, it can also prove useful in keeping conversations appropriate and respectful, as users will know their words are written down.

This can help solve a problem with the private chat room model, which has proved difficult to control. For example, despite being in an invitation-only beta, Clubhouse has experienced a small number of temperance failures, including harassment of New York Times reporters and another deep-seated dialogue with anti-Semitism.

For years, Twitter has been trying to crack down on abuses on its platforms, and it is a questionable place to test this new form of unproven online social networking.

As yet it is unclear how Twitter will manage these audio chat rooms, it seems that the transcription function can act as a deterrent to bad speech, while the application of the internal reporting function can solve the problems more directly. when users choose the "report this space" option, they can choose reports across a variety of categories, including self-harm, violence, sexual content, child safety, private information, or abuse.

Since audio spaces is in the private testing stage, testers will also be able to use the "share feedback" option to allow them to use DM @ twitterspaces accounts.

Jane also points out that audio spaces is using periscope as its back end based on her mining in application code. Twitter said earlier that audio spaces would be available to a small number of users. In the course of testing, these users will include a group of "people who are disproportionately affected by abuse and harm on the platform: women and people from marginalized backgrounds," Maya Gold Patterson, a twitter employee product designer, pointed out in introducing the feature to reporters this month.

Contacting Twitter spokesman for comments, he said. "Before the test starts, we'll share more about Spaces ."
