Microsoft is ready to launch a large-scale update of chrome based stable version of edge browser in January next year. In the official blog post, Microsoft has listed the main improvements and new features, including sleep tab, single / double page reading view of PDF reader, horizontal tab, etc.
Main features of stable version of edge 88 to be released in January next year
● sleep tab
By reducing the system resources (such as RAM, CPU) used by background and inactive browser tabs, the browser performance can be improved. Users can prevent tabbed sites from sleeping and configure the length of time before inactive tabs go to sleep. This feature can also be managed with group policy.
● single / double page view of PDF reader
Starting with Microsoft edge 88, users will be able to view PDF documents in a single page or two page book view. To change the view, the user clicks the "page view" button on the toolbar.
Single sign on
● vertical tab
As the number of horizontal tabs increases, site titles begin to be cut off, and tab controls are lost as each tab shrinks. This interferes with the user's workflow, as they spend more time finding, switching, and managing their tabs than they spend on the task at hand.
Vertical tabs allow users to move tabs to the side, and vertical icons and longer site titles make it easier for users to quickly scan, identify, and switch to the tabs they want to open.
Vertical tabs also provide more space to quickly multi select, close, and reorder tabs, making it easier to organize multiple tabs. When users want to follow and view more pages when using vertical tabs, they can collapse the panes at any time, and just hover to expand the panes when they want to interact with a specific tab.
● reset synchronization data
Microsoft is introducing a way to reset your Microsoft edge synchronization data from within the product. This ensures that your data is cleared from Microsoft Services and also solves some product issues that previously required support tickets.
● password leak check
Starting with Microsoft edge 88, the user password will be checked against a known broken credential library and an alert will be sent to the user if a match is found.
Remove traditional FTP protocol support
Support for the traditional FTP protocol has been removed from Microsoft edge. Attempting to navigate to an FTP link will cause the browser to boot the operating system to open an external application to process the FTP link. In addition, it administrators can configure Microsoft edge to use IE mode to handle FTP dependent websites.
Switch work account number
Starting with Microsoft edge 88, Microsoft provides the ability to switch between web sites certified with your work profile on Mac OS.
● remove flash player
Starting with Microsoft edge beta 88, Adobe Flash features and support will be removed.
