Experts from Aerospace Science and technology group said that tianwen-1 used an optical navigation sensor to find Mars in the vast sky, measured the relative angle, then controlled tianwen-1 to point to Mars accurately, and then took this picture with a high-resolution camera.
In fact, Mars looks like a huge orange ball because of the massive amount of hematite (iron oxide) on its surface.
In this photo, the Typical Landforms on Mars, such as the asidalia plain, the kreiser plain, the meridian plateau, the skiaparelli pit, and the mariner's Valley, are clearly visible.
Among them, Valles Marineris is the longest canyon on Mars and even in the whole solar system. It was discovered in 1972 by the mariner 9 probe of the United States. Its length is more than 4500 km, which is equivalent to that from New York to Los Angeles. At the same time, its widest part is more than 600 km and its depth is up to 8 km.
Up to now, tianwen-1 has been in orbit for about 197 days, 184 million kilometers away from the earth, 1.1 million kilometers away from Mars, and 465 million kilometers away. The spacecraft's systems are in good condition.
