How long does it take to get an air taxi? Maybe in three years' time, it can be realized by Geely Technology Group's volocopter Changkong and Germany's volocopter. "After the European EASA airworthiness certificate is obtained for the volocopter products, it is easier to obtain the Chinese airworthiness certificate through the China EU bilateral airworthiness agreement. Therefore, around 2024, there will be the launch of the volocopter products in China's urban air travel market. We are very confident about this."
Recently, Jingchao, CEO of Geely Technology Group's new navigation platform Wofei Changkong Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Wofei Changkong"), made the above statement in an exclusive interview with surging journalists.
Jingchao said the product is planned to be jointly operated in the Chinese market by a joint venture to be set up between Wofei Changkong and volocopter, a German urban air travel company. It is understood that the new joint venture will be controlled by Wofei Changkong and will be committed to the development of China's urban air traffic.
Fast car products
Founded on September 15, 2020, Wofei Changkong is the core carrier of Geely Technology Group's navigation strategy. At present, the company operates two brands of "Aoshi" and "Taili". Its main business is the R & D, production and operation of all kinds of UAVs and flying cars, and provides overall solutions for new cross-border ecology of navigation.
Volocopter was founded in 2011 and flew the world's first air taxi in Dubai in 2017. In September 2019, volocopter announced the completion of round C financing of 50 million euros, led by Geely Holding Group and participated by Daimler, with 10% shares held by both parties.
It is worth mentioning that before investing in volocopter, Geely had already made a layout in the field of air travel business. As early as 2017, Geely acquired all the businesses and assets of Terrafugia Taili in the United States.
Jingchao told surging news that when Geely Holdings Group invested in volocopter in 2019, it had planned to establish a joint venture with it in China to be responsible for the production and operation of volocopter products in China.
For the future development of the joint venture, according to Jingchao, the preparatory work of the joint venture has been basically completed. Volocopter products are planned to obtain the airworthiness certificate of European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in 2023. After obtaining airworthiness certificate, the flying car will start commercial application in Europe and be put on the market. At the same time, the airworthiness certification of the product in China will be completed immediately.
"Nearly three or four years later, volocopter will be officially launched in China. At present, the product research and development work has been basically completed, the relevant evidence collection work has begun, and the relevant operators have contacted with the company to discuss the future operation cooperation. " Jing Chao said.
As for the safety of flying car products, Jingchao said that since the product is a passenger aircraft, the safety of passengers must be put in the first place in product development and design, and the safety of the product is consistent with that of civil aircraft. Volocopter has 18 rotors, and the propeller and flight control system have sufficient redundancy. Even if some rotors have problems, the whole flying car can still operate safely, which is quite different from the helicopter.
For the future market of flying car products, Jingchao is very confident that the products will be profitable in the short term after they are put on the market. At present, in the national comprehensive three-dimensional transportation planning, there is a huge space for the future development of urban air traffic. The aircraft with new energy, vertical take-off and landing, and unmanned as the important labels will be the most significant features of the new navigation in the future. Urban air traffic will enable logistics transportation, emergency response, three-dimensional travel and other industries. In addition to being used in the urban area, it will also promote new consumption and new development Scenarios, new formats, and ensuring and improving public services will play an important role.
"The customers of fast cars are not only the daily travel of high-end and business groups, but also the needs of wedding, cultural travel, special scenes, etc., which are further derived from the popular three-dimensional travel. We believe that when the product comes out, volocopter will become a popular choice for people to overlook the city and travel in the air. " Jing Chao said.
