On February 22, Yu Chengdong officially announced at the launch conference of Huawei mate x2 folding screen flagship that he would launch Hongmeng OS system upgrade for Huawei flagship models in April this year.
Yesterday, latepost released an exclusive interview with Wang Chenglu, President of Huawei's consumer business software department and head of Hongmeng operating system in late January 2021. The latter disclosed a lot of information about Hongmeng system in the interview.
In the interview, Wang Chenglu confirmed that Huawei's mobile phone business will continue to exist, and there will be solutions for the supply of high-end chips, including the reserves, which will not be sold out all at once.
Huawei's new mobile phones are hard to ship, and the old ones will be replaced gradually. What should we do next?
Wang Chenglu said that the ecological development of Hongmeng in the past two years is particularly important. At present, we still have hundreds of millions of Huawei mobile phone users. If the old user has a very good experience after upgrading to Hongmeng system, he may stay. As long as we take these two years, our hardware may come back.
Wang Chenglu is optimistic, because in the past decade, the progress of various industries in China has been beyond imagination. Many things that could not be made can be made today, such as high-end mobile phone manufacturing, flexible screen and so on.
He also revealed that the conservative target of carrying Hongmeng equipment this year is 300 million. Among them, there are 200 million mobile phones, more than 30 million pads, watches, smart screens, speakers, and other products of partners.
Wang Chenglu said that some people think that Hongmeng system is a copy of Android. In fact, people question whether Hongmeng is a new version of Android, which shows that Chinese science and technology circles do not have a consistent understanding of open source software. Not all Android code is developed by Google. Most of the code comes from the open source community. Hung Meng will also absorb the excellent technology and code of the community, and use the open source code of AOSP (Android open source project) to make complaints about the change of Android. It shows that such Tucao people do not have a very accurate understanding of what is open source.
In October this year, the third phase of Hongmeng's open source code will go online, and there is almost no code from AOSP community contributed by Google.
Wang Chenglu also said that the challenge of operating system is not technology, but ecology. Only one company can make technology, but it is unlikely to make ecology. This is the reason why we don't believe it.
On the current situation of Hongmeng's overall ecological construction, Wang Chenglu revealed: on the one hand, the amount of ecology is not enough. There are about 20 million developers for Android and 24 million developers for IOS. The number of developers of Hongmeng ecology is still far behind. On the other hand, hardware and application manufacturers are very recognized by Hongmeng. In terms of hardware partners, almost all home appliance enterprises have come to communicate, and most of them have begun to implement cooperation. It only took Midea more than two months to use Hongmeng system from contact to decision-making. In terms of software partners, we have chosen the top 200 manufacturers in China's application market to communicate one by one, and now 70% of them have decided to make plans.
As for the US sanctions, Wang Chenglu thinks that the real first is that the first is in his own hands, fast if he wants to, slow if he wants to, but Huawei can't do it now. Under the US sanctions, the market share is declining rapidly, which shows that we are not really the first in the Chinese market.
