Apple will begin mass production of its third-generation airpods 3 in the third quarter of 2021, macrumors said, citing an investor report by analyst Guo Mingyu. In November last year, analysts hinted that the airpods 3 would be released in the first half of 2021, even at the end of the first quarter. But if the plan changes, consumers may have to wait until the second half of 2021 to buy the airpods 3.
In addition, analysts predict that from the first three quarters of 2021, the shipment volume of the air pods product line will decline by about 25% year on year to 55 million units.
If consumer demand for airpods 3 is higher than expected, Apple may maintain the same shipment volume (about 23 million units) in the fourth quarter of 2021 as the same period last year.
Even so, the overall air pods shipment volume in 2021 may still drop from 90 million units last year to 78 million units this year.
It remains to be seen whether Apple will stop production of airpods 2 when airpods 3 goes into mass production.
It is said that apple is in a dilemma. If it chooses to reduce the price of airpods 2, it may affect the sales of airpods 3.
On the other hand, if there is no more affordable air pods model, Apple may hand over the real wireless headset market to its competitors.
