According to media reports, on Saturday (19:11 p.m. Beijing time on May 15), the launch of the electron rocket of rocket lab, a private US aerospace company, failed.
According to the official,The rocket engine stopped unexpectedly, resulting in the scrapping of two satellite payloads. It is reported that the rocket launch was carried out in New Zealand, which is the 20th launch mission of electron rocket. However, this is the second rocket launch failure in less than a year (July 2020).
The two satellites came from blacksky and spaceflight, the report said.
The information released by rocket lab at present is that the second stage was successfully separated from the first stage, but the second stage was closed soon after ignition. Subsequently, the loss of remote sensing information announced the failure of rocket launch. The more exact reason is still under investigation and analysis.
Fortunately, with the help of parachute, the first stage of the launch rocket was successfully recovered in the Pacific Ocean.
It is also worth mentioning that on Saturday (6:56 a.m. Beijing time), Musk's SpaceX successfully launched the Falcon 9 rocket, putting a new batch of satellite chains and two small satellites into orbit, and the first stage successfully recovered independently.
However, the Falcon 9 rocket was 70 meters high, and the failed electron was only 18 meters, two laps smaller.
