On May 24, at the award ceremony of Hongmeng developer innovation competition,Wang Chenglu, President of Huawei's consumer business software department, said that Hongmeng will soon open source the system and carry out harmonic OS courses in 15 schools including Wuhan University.

At the recent Huawei Hongmeng partner summit, Yang Haisong, vice president of AI and smart full scene Business Department of Huawei's consumer business, said in an interview that Hongmeng system is completely open-source and open to the outside world. This year, according to the established plan, the whole stack system of 128mb-4gb devices will be open-source and open to the outside world.

On the issue of third-party cooperation, Yang Haisong said that mobile phone manufacturers from the three parties are welcome to use Hongmeng system to build open source together.

It is reported that openharmony 2.0 has about 4.6 million lines of key code,It is equivalent to 30% of Android's 105.25 million lines, and has about 18000 key APIs (application program interfaces), which is half of Android's 1036000.

The volume of the installation package is reduced to 60-70%, and all kinds of devices such as mobile phones, tablets, wearable devices, TVs and sensors can be used.

It is understood that openharmony 2.0 has multiple branch versions. This open L2 is a pure Hongmeng version. Without any Android code, it can run all Hongmeng applications, including distributed applications. It can also make phone calls and surf the Internet, but there are not many apps.

In addition, the L3-L5 branch is a dual framework version compatible with Android, which will also be open source.

According to Huawei's official statement, the positioning of Hongmeng OS is the operating system in the era of Internet of things, not the replacement of Android or the copy of IOS. The real development of Hongmeng started in May 2016. In fact, Huawei has been doing it for five years.

Wang Chenglu once said,Within this year, the number of Internet of things devices such as car machines, pads, watches, smart screens and speakers equipped with Hongmeng operating system is expected to reach 300 million, including more than 200 million mobile phones.
