On July 20, XDA reported that Sony Holland had previously hinted that Xperia 1 III would receive two years of security patch updates and one year of Android major version updates.
For a flagship that costs as much as $1299.99 (about 8500 yuan), Sony users are disappointed by this update strategy.
In response, Sony officially issued a statement,This means that Xperia 1 III will be upgraded to Android 12 and Android 13.
XDA pointed out that Sony Xperia 1 III's two-year commitment to big version Android update is not much better. Samsung, its rival, maintains the pace of three-year big version update, and even provides four-year Android update support for some models.
Google will provide three-year Android updates for all its pixel phones, and the upcoming pixel 6 series may even provide five-year Android updates.
XDA says,Sony's software update strategy lags behind its competitors, which is disappointing.
