The Australian government said its export finance arm agreed to provide $1.33 billion to support telstra, the country's largest telecommunications company, in its $1.6 billion acquisition of mobile networks in Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Nauru, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu.

The networks will reportedly be bought from Digicel Group, a Jamaica-based company, close to the undersea cables that carry communications between Australia and its neighbours.
