Russia's state communications regulator, Roskomnadzor, has filed an administrative lawsuit against Google and Meta, which could impose fines based on the tech companies' annual turnover in Russia, the Tagansky District Court in Moscow reportedly announced. Roskomnadzor threatened Google in October, saying it would seek a fine of between 5 and 20 per cent of its Russian annual turnover, or up to $240m. Because Of Google's repeated failure to remove content deemed illegal, it would be Russia's strongest punishment yet against a foreign technology company.
