HDD Q4 shipments fell nearly 10% to 64 million units: Seagate was no. 1

Shipments of HDDS have been declining every year since the 2011 Floods in Thailand, and SSDS now occupy the share of laptops, desktops and servers, with some 64 million HDDS shipped in Q4 last year, down nearly 10% from the same period last year.

According to Trendfocus, in the Q4 of 2021,Global HDD shipments were in the range of 63.4 to 64.7 million units, down 2.3 to 4.3 percent from Q3 and 7.7 to 9.5 percent from Q4 2020, continuing the decline.

Currently, there are only three players in the HDD market: Seagate, WDC Western Digital and Toshiba. Seagate ranked first in Q4, shipping 27.2 to 27.7 million HDDS, with a share of 42.8% to 42.9%, down 7.1% to 8.8% year on year.

WDC Western Digital shipped 23.5 million to 24 million HDDS in Q4, down 6.4% to 8.3% year on year, with a market share of 37.1%.

Toshiba ranked third, shipping 12.7-13 million HDDS in Q4, down 11.1%-13.2%, the biggest drop among the three vendors, with its share falling to around 20.0%-20.1%.
