Canada's auto safety regulator said on Thursday it has launched an investigation into the heat pump systems of Tesla's (TSLA.us)Model 3 and Model Y cars,It follows 16 consumer complaints that the system does not work properly in cold weather.
Transport Canada said it was concerned that the malfunctioning heating and air conditioning system "could affect windshield defogging/defrosting, thereby affecting visibility for drivers."
"The company must notify Transport Canada and all existing car owners.... when it discovers a defect that could affect personal safety These notices are often referred to as' safety recalls. '" The regulator said it had informed Tesla of the investigation.
According to media reports, many Tesla owners have complained that these heat pumps fail at extremely low temperatures. Tesla addressed the issue early last year by replacing heat pump sensors on Model 3 and Model Y models from 2020 to 2021, the report said.
