AMD China announced that IT has entered into a chip supply cooperation with NiO. AMD will supply chips for NiO's electric cars.
It is understood that Nio will use AMD's EPYC family of processors in its HIGH-PERFORMANCE computing platform to help speed up AI deep learning training, save costs and shorten product development cycles.
However, AMD chips will only be used in NIO's vehicle development, not in car production, meaning AMD chips will not be introduced in cars.
According to AMD, the EPYC processor can assist in CAE simulation, design and testing, including CFD fluid dynamics, structural simulation and collision simulation. "With the help of AMD EPYC, niO'S HPC platform can handle around 240 simulation tasks per day, up 50% year-on-year. Server procurement costs will be reduced by 30-40% year on year, and TCO savings are expected to exceed 50% in the next 3-5 years to further shorten the vehicle development cycle, bring new vehicles to market faster, drive business growth and drive the future."
