Nikhil Koratkar, the author of the paper, said that the vast majority of rechargeable battery products are based on lithium ion technology, which is a golden standard for performance. However, the fatal weakness of lithium ion technology is cost. Lithium is a limited resource on the earth, and its prices have risen sharply in recent years.

Compared with lithium ions, calcium ions are larger and more charge density, but it may damage the stability of the cycle. Therefore, the team proposes to contain a large gap oxide structure (seven -angle and hexagonal channel), which is a promising solution.

After testing, the team proves that calcium ions can be quickly inserted and extracted from materials. These channels act as the reversible and fast ion transmission & ldquo; pipeline & rdquo;. The results show that Movo provides one of the best calcium ion storage performance so far.
Researchers also pointed out that calcium ions have an advantage compared to lithium ions: the former is a binary, so during the operation of the battery, two electrons can be provided each time a ion is inserted.
