Tencent's second-quarter net profit fell 56% from a year earlier to 18.6 billion yuan

Tencent Holdings has released its financial results for the second quarter of 2022. The company reported second-quarter revenue of 134 billion yuan, down 3% year on year; Net profit fell 56% year on year to RMB18.6 billion, while non-IFRS net profit fell 17% to RMB28.1 billion.

As of June 30, 2022, WeChat and WeChat had 1.299 billion monthly active users, up 3.8 percent year on year, according to the financial results.

Notably, Tencent noted in its earnings statement, "During the second quarter, we proactively exited non-core businesses, tightened marketing spending, and cut operating expenses, which enabled us to achieve sequential non-IFRS earnings growth despite revenue pressure."
