Microsoft Windows 11/10 has released an optional update to fix the daylight saving Time Bug, and a universal fix will be rolled out next month

Last month, there were reports that some Windows customers were experiencing problems due to the Daylight Saving Time (DST) error Bug. The main reason Chilean users were affected was the announcement by the Chilean government that clocks in the region would be brought forward by one hour from September 4, rather than September 10, as well as other time zone updates.

This causes issues related to incorrect timing in Outlook, calendar, third-party applications, logging, Kerberos authentication, and more. In fact, Microsoft notes that even users outside Chile may be affected if they connect to servers in the country. At the time, Microsoft released some temporary fixes, and an official fix has now been rolled out.

IT House has learned that the patch is currently available as a cumulative preview update in the form of KB5017380. This update was initially rolled out only to beta testers, but is now available as an optional update to non-beta testers.

It is important to note that since this is an optional update provided as a preview, it will not be automatically pushed. Users must manually check the "Explorer" experience for updates in Windows Update.

According to Microsoft, this update will fix DST issues for the following Windows SKUs:

  • Windows 10 version 1809

  • Windows 10 version 20H2

  • Windows 10 version 21H1

  • Windows 10 version 21H2

  • Windows 10 version 22 to H2

  • Windows 11 2022

  • Windows 11

Those who want to wait for the update to become generally available will have to wait until next month's Tuesday patch, when the update accumulates on October 11.
